Maritha Du is an undergraduate student at Boston College. “My time with NYSCECH and Pediatric Environmental Health Unit Region 2 was extremely valuable and rewarding. Having an interest in environmental health, I wanted an experience that would allow me to both learn and practically apply my knowledge of the classroom. The elective at Mount Sinai allowed me to do exactly that and so much more. During my time, I was involved in evaluating pediatric environmental exposures in specific case studies, screening patients for environmental exposures and other social determinant factors, and identifying and coordinating available community resources in order to improve patient well-being. What makes this elective truly special was working alongside the dedicated and passionate group of people at Mount Sinai. They are really making a better, cleaner environment for our children and I am grateful to have had the opportunity to help.”
