As a third year medical student, I greatly appreciated having exposure to current issues in children’s environmental health. For example, I learned about the recent upswing in e cigarette use and the unexpected health ramifications of these new devices through a grand rounds lecture and reading Dr. Brown’s paper on the subject. I was also able to attend a Head Start Conference and learn about the challenges of minimizing harmful environmental exposures in low-income school districts. Medical students typically do not get enough exposure to “health care systems” problems like these, so I was very grateful for the opportunities to broaden my perspective
